Thank You Volunteers! April 2025
March and April have been whirlwind months. We accomplished so much with your help in the first Quarter of this year. Thanks to everyone who keeps showing up month after month to make sure people are fed and housed.
Red Cross Disaster Response
So many of you helped to pack 200 boxes on a Saturday morning in quick response to our partners at The National Red Cross. In response to flooding in KY, the boxes went out to Bullitt County and were distributed in two locations along with Milk and Bread. Another load was picked up by the Red Cross and delivered to those in need in Trigg County. We focus on Warren County and the Barren River Area Development District. When we get to be involved in response across the State we’re always honored to do so. Thank you for making this happen quickly!
What’s Coming?
The Grocery Trucks
Through several large gifts and one specifically from Franklin Bank and Trust, we are working to launch our first truck for The Grocery program. The Grocery program is preparing to mobilize. We will begin opening The Grocery locations across Warren County with pop up locations from time to time in surrounding counties. This is our transition to being more local to our current clients being served by the food box delivery program. This is HUGE in our mission to provide more fresh foods. The Grocery program allows our clients to receive more food per family as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. We can’t wait to roll out, literally, our first Grocery Truck. Stay tuned for the locations served by this first truck and the volunteer opportunities. This will also expand our food programs with a food freeze-drying program.
The Art of Home Art Show
House on the Hill will host The Art of Home Art Show the month of June in our front lobby. This show is made up of close to 20 local/regional artists with the theme of “Home”. During the show at least one piece from each artist will be on Silent Auction to raise money for our housing programs. If you or someone you know is an artist and would like to participate, please visit our "Artist Page" for more information and to register as an artist to be included in the Show (Deadline May 15). To see the event calendar for the show go to "The Art of Home" page. There are opportunities to bring your business and/or co-workers to lunch during June to view the Show, hear more about House on the Hill and participate in the Silent Auction. You’ll find these opportunities on "The Art of Home" page.
BUILD
Our annual campaign is LIVE. The BUILD Campaign this year has a goal to reach 600 new household sponsors. We’d love for you to share the link or pick up some of the BUILD cards and as you are telling others about volunteering with us hand them the card or send them the link to get involved. It’s still just $25 a month or $300 for the year to sponsor a household through House on the Hill. Share the link: https://www.houseonthehillbg.com/sponsor
We also have opportunities for businesses to participate in the campaign! Ask us how.
The Guesthouse Program
In the first quarter we have housed 5 households in our Guesthouse Program. This program is transitional housing for up to one year. In mid-May, we’ll open up our Housing Application again. This time the application will remain open and we’ll evaluate housing needs on an individual basis. Our goal is 5-10 more households housed by the end of the summer. We have two single moms and a single dad, a retired woman, and a high school senior headed to college housed right now. So many amazing humans who just needed a hand up this year. More information regarding this work will be a part of The Art of Home Art Show in June.
The Emergency Housing Camper
This pilot program has had a slow start but the trailer is almost ready to be placed in the KOA Campground. Recent flooding hampered the move and a couple more updates/repairs were found to be needed. We look forward to the Emergency Housing Camper being setup mid-late May. We also have several one-bedroom housing units that will be used for emergency housing. This housing program is temporary housing for up to a few months.
The Food Programs
We’ve provided close to 80,000 meals in the first Quarter of 2025. We are on track to provide over 500,000 meals this year as The Grocery Truck program comes online. Being regional within the county with our Grocery Trucks will allow us to reach more people in need. All our expansion happens because of the volunteers who serve with House on the Hill. Your work allows us to get to where the people are who need help.
